The CD was recorded in Shanghai, China during the group's four months of shows in China and Japan in 2004. Recorded in one day at Shanghai Broadcast Centre studios, EAST captures the excitement of the group's live performances and it's unique blend of blues, funk and rock. Produced by Sam Hooper and Scottish songwriter Gordon J. Stevenson, EAST features 3 of Sam's compositions, one by Gordon, plus fresh versions of The Rolling Stones' 'Under My Thumb' and Bob Dylan's 'All Along the Watchtower.' The trio, (Sam Hooper, guitar/vocals, Jordan Scannella, bass/bg vocals, Akira Nakamura, drums) was brought to China in cooperation with Boston's Planetary Group and Shanghai's China West Entertainment. They performed six nights/week from January to April at Shanghai's popular House of Blues and Jazz. Shows at The Big Easy in Beijing and a workshop for students at The Beijing Midi School of Music followed. Then it was off to Okinawa, Japan for shows at Apache Live House. The group returned to Shanghai to release EAST there before returning to the USA. The USA release of EAST was re-mastered by John Weston of Futura Productions in Roslindale, MA. Jean Keller of Chalk Hill Design, in Arlington, MA, did the graphics.
