Harry James led the most popular of all the Big Bands during most of the World War II years. The most famous trumpeter of the Swing Era, James struck a chord with the public - in hit records, radio broadcasts and feature films - through a unique mix of highly charged jazz instrumentals and sentimental pop numbers. His inventive arrangements showcased his expressive trumpet sound, while they created the perfect setting for the vocal talents of such singers as Frank Sinatra, Helen Forrest, Helen Ward and Dick Haymes.
